What makes this spot special

Castlebar

Castlebar is the county town of Mayo, in the heart of Ireland's rugged northwest. The branch is at the Moneen Industrial Estate, right off the N5 and easy to find.

Westport, one of Ireland's most beautiful planned towns, is fifteen minutes west. Achill Island, connected to the mainland by bridge, is an hour's drive and worth every minute. Croagh Patrick, the holy mountain, rises from the coast thirty minutes away.

Mayo is consistently rated among the best places to visit in Ireland, and for good reason. The beaches are huge and empty, the mountains are dramatic, and the pace of life is genuinely slower here.

Questions cousins ask about Castlebar

contact us if yours isn't here
What can I do in Westport?
Westport is a Georgian planned town with colourful streets, great restaurants, and Matt Molloy's pub (owned by the Chieftains flute player). Westport House and gardens are on the edge of town. Clew Bay, with its 365 islands, is right on the doorstep.
Is Achill Island worth the drive?
Absolutely. Achill is Ireland's largest island, connected by bridge so you can drive straight on. Keem Bay is regularly voted one of the best beaches in Europe. The Atlantic Drive around the island is spectacular.
How far is Castlebar from Dublin?
About 3 hours on the N5 / M5. The road has been significantly improved in recent years and is mostly dual carriageway now.
Can I climb Croagh Patrick?
Yes. The traditional start point is at Murrisk, about 30 minutes from Castlebar. The climb takes about 3-4 hours return. It is steep and rocky near the top, so bring proper footwear. The views from the summit over Clew Bay are extraordinary.
What makes Mayo different from other Irish counties?
Mayo has some of the most dramatic and least-visited landscape in Ireland. The coastline is wild, the bogs stretch for miles, and towns like Westport and Mulranny have a genuine warmth that comes from being off the main tourist circuit.
