South Cork

The South Cork branch is on Kinsale Road, the southern approach to Cork city. It is the closest branch to Kinsale, the harbour town that many consider Ireland's food capital, and to the West Cork coast.

Kinsale is twenty minutes south. Clonakilty, another West Cork gem, is an hour's drive. The Beara Peninsula, wilder and quieter than the Ring of Kerry, is about two hours southwest. Cork city centre is ten minutes north.

South Cork is the right starting point if your trip focuses on West Cork's coast, harbours, and foodie towns. The roads are narrow and beautiful, and the pace of life slows the further west you go.

How far is Kinsale from the South Cork branch?
About 20 minutes south on the R600. Kinsale is a harbour town famous for its food scene, colourful streets, and the star-shaped Charles Fort. It is a perfect first stop from this branch.
What is West Cork like?
West Cork is a region of small harbours, headlands, and art galleries strung along a winding coast road. Towns like Clonakilty, Skibbereen, Baltimore, and Schull each have their own character. The pace is slow and the food is excellent.
Should I pick up at South Cork or Cork Airport?
If you are flying into Cork, the airport branch is fastest. If you are already in or near Cork city and your trip heads south toward Kinsale and West Cork, the South Cork branch puts you straight on the right road.
What is the Beara Peninsula?
The Beara Peninsula is between Kerry and West Cork. It is less famous than the Ring of Kerry but equally dramatic and much less crowded. The Healy Pass through the mountains is one of the best drives in Ireland.
Is the coast road to West Cork winding?
Yes. The R600 and N71 are scenic but narrow in places. A Compact car is comfortable. Drive at your own pace and enjoy the views. West Cork rewards slow driving.
