Belfast International Airport

Belfast International Airport is the larger of the two Belfast airports, located near Antrim, about thirty minutes northwest of the city. It handles most of Northern Ireland's long-haul and charter traffic.

From here you are already north of Belfast, which means the Causeway Coast and Giant's Causeway are closer. The M2 motorway takes you straight to the Antrim Coast Road. Heading south, you can reach Dublin in about two hours on the M1.

If you are flying in from mainland Europe or on a charter, this is likely where you will land. The car hire area is well signposted from arrivals.

Questions cousins ask about Belfast International Airport

contact us if yours isn't here
How do I get from Belfast International Airport to my car?
After collecting your bags, follow the car rental signs through the arrivals area. The car hire desks and compound are a short walk from the terminal. No shuttle needed.
Is Belfast International Airport closer to the Giant's Causeway than Belfast City?
Yes. Belfast International is about 1 hour 15 minutes from the Giant's Causeway, compared to about 1 hour 50 minutes from Belfast City Airport. If the Causeway Coast is your priority, International is the better starting point.
Can I drive from Belfast International to Dublin?
Yes. Take the M2 south to Belfast, then the M1 / A1 to Dublin. The drive is about 2 hours. Cross-border driving is included at no extra cost.
What currency do I need in Northern Ireland?
Northern Ireland uses British pounds sterling. If you cross into the Republic, you will need euros. Most places accept card payments, so carrying large amounts of cash is not necessary.
Are there places to eat near Belfast International Airport?
There are a few options inside the terminal. For more choice, the town of Antrim is about 10 minutes south with restaurants, cafes, and supermarkets. Templepatrick village is 5 minutes away.
