What makes this spot special

your cousin's local knowledge
Dun Laoghaire

Dun Laoghaire is a Victorian harbour town on Dublin's south coast, about twenty minutes from the city centre. The branch is on the Bray Road, close to the seafront and the DART train line.

The East Pier walk, the Forty Foot swimming spot, and the views across Dublin Bay are right on the doorstep. Dalkey, Killiney Hill, and the start of the Wicklow coastal drive are all within ten minutes.

Dun Laoghaire is the pickup that makes sense if you are staying along the south Dublin coast. You can enjoy the seaside towns by train, then pick up your car when you are ready to head south to Wicklow or west across Ireland.

What is there to do in Dun Laoghaire?
Walk the East Pier (one of the best harbour walks in Ireland), swim at the Forty Foot, browse the Sunday market, and eat seafood on the waterfront. Dalkey village and Killiney Hill are both close by.
Can I get to Dun Laoghaire without a car?
Yes. The DART train runs from Dublin city centre to Dun Laoghaire in about 20 minutes. It is one of the best-connected suburbs in Dublin and easy to reach by public transport.
Is Dun Laoghaire good for a Wicklow drive?
Excellent. The coast road south from Dun Laoghaire through Bray, Greystones, and Wicklow is one of the prettiest drives near Dublin. You can also cut inland to Glendalough from here.
Is there a ferry from Dun Laoghaire?
The Stena Line ferry to Holyhead in Wales used to run from Dun Laoghaire but now departs from Dublin Port. The harbour is still used by cruise ships and leisure boats.
What is the Forty Foot?
The Forty Foot is an open-air sea swimming spot in Sandycove, just south of Dun Laoghaire. It is famous for year-round swimming and was made famous by the opening of James Joyce's Ulysses. The Martello tower beside it houses a small Joyce museum.
