What makes this spot special

your cousin's local knowledge
Tralee

Tralee is the county town of Kerry and the northern gateway to both the Ring of Kerry and the Dingle Peninsula. The branch is on John Joe Sheehy Road, close to the Aqua Dome and the town centre.

Dingle is thirty minutes west on the N86, one of the most scenic approach roads in the country. Killarney is thirty minutes south on the N22. The Connor Pass, the highest mountain pass in Ireland open to regular traffic, is on the Dingle route.

Tralee is a working town, not a tourist village. Prices are lower, the pubs are full of locals, and you get a real sense of Kerry life before you hit the famous drives.

Questions cousins ask about Tralee

contact us if yours isn't here
Is Tralee a good base for the Dingle Peninsula?
It is the closest town base. Dingle town is 30 minutes west on the N86, passing over or around the Connor Pass. You can explore the entire peninsula in a day and return to Tralee each evening.
What is the Connor Pass like to drive?
The Connor Pass is Ireland's highest paved mountain pass. It is narrow and steep in places, with incredible views at the top. A Compact car is recommended. In winter or bad weather, there is an alternative lower route via Annascaul.
Can I do both Dingle and the Ring of Kerry from Tralee?
Yes. Tralee is perfectly placed between both. Drive the Dingle Peninsula one day and the Ring of Kerry the next. Killarney, where the Ring begins, is 30 minutes south.
Where should I eat in Tralee?
Tralee has a surprisingly good food scene. The town has several quality restaurants along Denny Street and The Mall. It is more affordable than Dingle or Killarney for evening dining.
Is there anything to do in Tralee itself?
Tralee has the Kerry County Museum, the Blennerville Windmill (the largest working windmill in Ireland), and the Rose of Tralee festival grounds. The town park and canal walk are pleasant strolls.
